I'm a little hung over. That's ok! It happens with overindulgence.
There's a lot of math in ballet. I remember in Benjamin Buttons Kate Blanchett says that dance is about lines... so it's about math, then :)
Let's take the notion further... dancing is about the continuous and fluid motions of math as depicted in body movement. That is why it can mesmerize you.
The fact of the matter is; everyone can see math. Most don't realize what they're viewing and don't hold with it the reverence for which it deserves. The good news is... the closer to chemical balance of the brain that you get; the more you'll begin to see the mathematics that surrounds your everything about existence.
Doing basic things like going for a walk take on a whole new meaning. This is where you get the farmer that retires and looks out from the porch everyday. He does this because he's had all the excitement he cares to have and now he can just absorb everything around him while sitting out on the porch in his rocking chair drinking beer. Or not drinking beer.
Someone may ask this man why he likes to do this. He won't really know. He likes the scenery. He always has. It's just beautiful to him... when the wind blows and moves the leaves through the trees... each leaf being sent in a slightly different way; coming back around like a startled school of fish.
Off in the distance he sees a river. The river always moves in the same direction. It is always a new and interesting river even though the river seemed to always be there. There are ripples with every breeze and every slight disturbance... but the river stops for nothing (except the deepest freeze).
Should he wander indoors and turn on PBS and catch a ballet (old people watch PBS all the time--that's not far-fetched) then he can sit and watch the same continuous flow of math... this time displayed by the seasoned dancer with their body movements. It's the physics of your athleticism in fluid motion. That's why it's beautiful.
